Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin spoke about his goals for the upcoming NHL seasons. He also talked about Wayne Gretzky’s record for goals in the regular season.
“I want to play 1,500 games in the NHL. I don’t remember how many I have now. It can definitely be done in two seasons. I have already played the most games among Russian NHL players. I think this is a great achievement. And all this in one club – only me and Zhenya Malkin have this. If there were no lockout and pandemic, then I think Gretzky’s record would have already been broken. But, unfortunately, such moments happen.
“I also want to win the Stanley Cup again. Words cannot express the emotions and pleasure that we, friends, family and fans received in 2018. I want to feel it all again,” Ovechkin said in a podcast on Amiran Sardarov’s YouTube channel.
Alexander Ovechkin in 1426 games of the NHL regular season has scored 1550 (853+697) points using the goal+assist system. He is now the second best scorer in the history of the championship. The 38-year-old Russian has 41 goals left to beat Wayne Gretzky’s record.
It is worth noting that in 2018, Ovechkin helped Washington win the first and so far only Stanley Cup in club history.
