General Manager of the club NHL Philadelphia Flyers Daniel Briere said he would not place any blame on the Russian striker Matveya Michkova the role of a rescuer in a team.
Michkov was selected seventh overall by the Flyers in the 2023 NHL Draft. In July, the club signed the 19-year-old Russian to a three-year, entry-level contract.
“We don’t look at him as a savior; it’s not something we put on his shoulders.” He’s 19 and comes to the team to learn and develop his game. He has unlimited potential, but he’s not expected to be a savior.
Michkov won’t have an easy time in his first NHL season. However, “Philadelphia has a locker room with a lot of veterans who will help him integrate into the team,” Briere said at a news conference.
Michkov played for SKA Saint Petersburg and Sochi last season in the Kontinental Hockey League. In total, the forward played 47 games and scored 41 points (19 goals and 22 assists).
