Michkov on moving to Philadelphia: “Dad would be proud of me. I want to win the Stanley Cup in his honor.”

Attack Philadelphia Flyers Matvey Mishkov said he would like to win the Stanley Cup in honor of his father Andrei, who died in April 2023.

Michkov was selected seventh overall by the Flyers in the 2023 NHL Draft. In July, the club signed the 19-year-old Russian to a three-year, entry-level contract.

“I think dad would be proud of me. I would like to win the Stanley Cup and all possible trophies in his honor,” Michkov said at a press conference.

Michkov played for SKA Saint Petersburg and Sochi last season in the Kontinental Hockey League. In total, the forward played 47 games and scored 41 points (19 goals and 22 assists).
