Russian defender for the New York Islanders Alexander Romanov told that he intends to improve in the new NHL season, noting that he rates his own level of play as above average.
Romanov has been playing in the NHL since the 2020/21 season. The 24-year-old defenseman made his league debut with the Montreal Canadiens and was traded to the Islanders in 2022. In total, he has played 290 NHL games and scored 63 points (13 goals and 50 assists).
— What goals do you set for the new NHL season?
– Become much better. That’s the funny thing about a goal: it should be there, but it’s not a fact that you’ll achieve it, but you have to strive to achieve it.
— You will be experiencing your fifth season in the NHL. How would you rate your level?
— Like above average (laughs). You can always be better at everything. No matter how you are evaluated, no matter what contracts you are offered, you can always progress and develop. If you ask Connor McDavid about his level, he will tell you that he can still improve or that he has a lot of mistakes to correct. A hockey player must be mentally determined to never stop developing,” Romanov told .
