Ovechkin lost to Crosby in ranking of the best NHL players of the 21st century

Russian forward for the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin took second place in ESPN’s ranking of the best NHL players of the 21st century.

The 38-year-old Russian lost only to the Canadian striker from Pittsburgh Sydney Crosby . On the third line is Edmonton forward Connor McDavid. Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin was ninth, Tampa forward Nikita Kucherov was 17th, teammate goalie Andrei Vasilevsky was 19th and former Detroit player Pavel Datsyuk was 22nd.

The top 10 also included Patrick Kane (Detroit), Nicklas Lidstrom, Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado), Martin Brodeur, Henrik Lundqvist and Patrice Bergeron.

Ovechkin ranks second on the NHL’s all-time scoring list with 853 goals, behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894). In 2018, Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup and in 2008, he was awarded the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s leading regular-season goal scorer.
