Athletistic / Hockey. Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dmitry Orlov has responded to the club and forward Evgeny Kuznetsov’s decision to terminate their employment contract. It was previously reported that the 32-year-old Russian was planning to return to the KHL.
“Zhenya Kuznetsov did not discuss with me his return to Russia. Of course, like everyone else, I was surprised by his decision.
“I have a feeling that he could still play in the NHL. In terms of level, Kuznetsov could continue to be an NHL-level player. In any case, for now I will not say anything more on this topic, since his transfer to the KHL club has not yet been officially announced,” Orlov told Izvestia.
Evgeny Kuznetsov graduated from Chelyabinsk Traktor. In 251 games for his hometown club, the forward scored 167 (78+89) points using the goal+assist system. Kuznetsov has been playing in the NHL since March 2014. He was a player of the Washington Capitals for 10 years, but he finished the 2023/2024 season in Carolina. Note that since 2017, the rights to him in the KHL belong to SKA St. Petersburg.
