As learned, SKA will use the KHL rule to optimize the salary cap before signing Evgeniy Kuznetsov. The consequence will be the voluntary decision of another St. Petersburg forward, Arseniy Gritsyuk, to accept a salary reduction.
As previously reported, on June 26, Kuznetsov and his family arrived in St. Petersburg. The 32-year-old forward has already terminated his contract with Carolina and received unrestricted free agent status. Kuznetsov is expected to sign a four-year contract with SKA soon, where he will continue his career.
has learned that forward Emil Galimov, whose salary for the 2024/25 season will amount to 40 million rubles, will be exchanged from SKA to another KHL club. Defender Sergei Sapego (45 million) and forward Arseniy Gritsyuk (60 million) will remain, but their salaries will be reduced in accordance with the KHL rule, according to which each club in the league can revise downwards the salaries of three of its players once per season. Moreover, this requires the consent of the hockey player himself, who signs the new agreement.
According to , Gritsyuk, 23, himself asked to lower his salary in order to win the Gagarin Cup in what may be his last season before leaving for New Jersey. In addition, he will earn more through personal and team bonuses if SKA wins the Gagarin Cup.
Last season, Gritsyuk scored 38 (19+19) points in 50 regular season games, as well as 6 (4+2) points in 10 playoff games. Currently, he is the second highest-paid SKA player after Sergei Tolchinsky (77 million rubles).
