Athletistic / Hockey. Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov shared his thoughts on the suspension of the Russian national team from competitions under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
“I would really like the Russian national teams to return to international competitions in the coming years. Of course, we, hockey players, discuss this issue among ourselves. I hope that soon everything will balance out. that Russia is being driven out, that our teams are not playing, I feel especially bad for the youth team…
The players are not playing, it is understandable, but it only makes things worse for our entire sport and industry. It seems to me that in general it is bad for the image, for the development of hockey and everything else. For the popularization of hockey, it is a pity that the Russian national team does not play, that young hockey players miss such tournaments. Just as adult players do not participate in the world championships and cannot go to the Olympics. I do not know who will benefit from this. However, it is not for me to discuss all this. I am not a politician, but a hockey player, so for now we accept what we have, “Kochetkov said according to Izvestia.
On January 1, 2024, Luc Tardif wanted the FHR to return to international competitions this calendar year.
In February 2022, the IIHF suspended all teams from Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments due to events in Ukraine. On March 22 last year, the organization extended the suspension for the entire 2023/2024 international season. And in the summer of 2023, the saga began with goaltender Ivan Fedotov’s contract with CSKA.
