Athletistic / Hockey. Three-time Olympic champion and President of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Vladislav Tretyak said that due to Russia’s exclusion from participation in international competitions, it will now be difficult to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Super Series between the USSR national teams and Canada.
“We have plans to celebrate this event, but at the moment I can’t tell you anything concrete. At the moment, due to the current situation, it is difficult for us to plan anything. If the situation had been different, we could have. “We played with youth teams. Moreover, 50 years ago we did not play with NHL players, but with the WHA,” Tretyak was quoted as saying by TASS.
The 1974 Super Series was held from September 17 to October 6, 1974 in four Canadian cities (Quebec City, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver), as well as in Moscow. This was the second Super Series involving Soviet and Canadian hockey players, and the first such event was held in 1972. 50 years ago, the Soviet team lost only one game, drew three, and won four. As a result, it was the Soviet hockey players who became the winners of the 1974 Super Series.
Russian hockey is under sanctions from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) following the start of the SVO in Ukraine.
