Avangard coach Zvyagin on Berdin transfer: “A hardworking guy with big ambitions”

The head coach “Avant-garde” Sergei Zvyagin explained the invitation to the Omsk club of goalkeeper Mikhail Berdin.

Earlier, Berdin, 26, joined Avangard following a three-way trade involving Sochi and SKA Saint Petersburg.

— Why did you decide to strengthen the goalkeeping team with Mikhail Berdin?

— We started contacting Misha’s representatives right when he was leaving the Winnipeg system. They were interested in getting him. Then it was because of the potential that was visible in him. Over the next few years, he became a more mature goalie.

I am impressed by the fact that Berdin has slightly restructured his thinking and matured. He is ready to grow and listen, a worker with great ambitions. So we believe that we have an excellent goalkeeping tandem at the moment. And, of course, the team’s new goalkeeping coach Alexei Zhigarev will play a big role in the further development of the guys,” Zvyagin said in “Championship”.

Last season, Berdin played 50 KHL regular season games with a save percentage of 91.1%.
