Dnepr will share the ice arena with the local Legion
Hockey club Dnipro from Kherson will be based in Kalush in the 2022/23 season. This was announced by the director of the club Nikita Vasiliev.
Dnipro will share the ice arena in Kalush with the local Legion team, which also plans to compete in the 2022/23 Ukrainian Championship.
“Since our hometown is under occupation, we will host home matches in Kalush in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. I want to hope that during the season the Armed Forces of Ukraine will liberate Kherson and we will return home. However, we live in the present and began to complete the team. There is an agreement with the new coaching staff. These are Ukrainian specialists. I won’t name them yet. But in the near future they will be heard on the official club media resources,” Vasiliev said.
“We have no other choice but to go for a significant renewal of the composition. Of course, there will be no legionnaires in the current realities. It’s nice that we managed to keep the leaders of the Dnipro – team captain Yevhen Ratushny and goalkeeper Eduard Zakharchenko. Of the young hockey players, we have already concluded an agreement with a pupil of Kherson hockey Danil Bulakh.”
“We were winners of four previous championships, so medals of any kind will be a minimum task for us. The maximum task is to reach the final of the championship of Ukraine-2022/2023. Before the start, the chances of all six teams going to play in the Ukrainian championship look approximately equal. I can say that we have long-term plans: to test the renewed team, win the league title with it and play in European competitions. If not in the next season, then in one of the next.
Earlier, the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine announced that it had reached an oral agreement with six clubs to participate in the new draw of the Ukrainian championship.
Last season in the championship of Ukraine was completed ahead of schedule due to a full-scale Russian invasion. Sokol, who was the leader in the standings at the time of the suspension of the competition, was recognized as the champion of the national championship.
