“For 78 years, Torpedo has not won a single major title. It is time to aim for big goals” – Larionov

The head coach “Torpedo” Igor Larionov spoke about the team’s goals for the upcoming KHL season.

Last season, the Nizhny Novgorod team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing to SKA in the series with a score of 1:4.

— I am pleasantly surprised that all the hockey players arrived in good shape and passed the medical examinations and gym tests. The players are showing enthusiasm. The emphasis is now on puck possession, ingenuity and improvisation. In general, we will build the game in attack, without forgetting the defense. Let’s pay attention to the balance in attack and improvisation.

In the new season, the regular season will be longer. The number of games has remained the same and windows have appeared. Breaks of five to seven days can be both beneficial and harmful. The result is an irregular rhythm, because of which you will have to adjust your preparation as the season progresses.

“In Nizhny Novgorod, hockey is the number one sport, but in 78 years Torpedo has not won a single major title. It’s time to aim for big goals without waiting for a new arena,” Larionov said, according to the KHL press service.

The new KHL season starts on September 3. Torpedo was founded in December 1946.
