Athletistic / Hockey. Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris McFarland responded to reporters’ questions about the Avalanche’s unavailable player situation by mentioning Russian forward Valery Nichushkin.

“Obviously, we still don’t know Landeskog’s status, and Nichushkin’s situation is his personal story if you’re talking about the roster going into the regular season, as well as in light of decisions regarding long-term players, so a lot of that is up to us and still to be worked out,” McFarland was quoted as saying by the NHL’s press service.

On May 14, Valery Nichushkin was transferred to the third stage of the NHL Player Assistance Program, which is why he will miss at least six months. For the second year in a row, Valery is prematurely ending his participation in the Stanley Cup for reasons other than sport.

Gabriel Landeskog underwent a cartilage transplant in his right knee in May 2023. The Swede has still not recovered and missed the last NHL season entirely.

Colorado lost the series 2-4 to the Dallas Stars to end the season.
