Athletistic / Hockey. New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin opened up about how his life changed after having a baby.
“Why didn’t I have a regular season last season? I don’t even know. There are different difficult moments in life: some things work on the ice, and some don’t. It also left a certain imprint, because I haven’t seen my family and friends for a long time. Now I am in Russia and I am starting my standard preparation for the season, which I am happy and satisfied with. I am looking forward to the start of the season.
Not coming to Russia last summer could have had a psychological impact. I miss my family and I am used to a certain type of education. In the United States, I could not get what I was used to.
I didn’t come to Russia at that time because of the birth of a child. At that time, it was the most important thing. Now he has grown up, thank God, everything is fine! That’s why we are now accustoming him to Russian culture in Russia. At home, we speak Russian. So we don’t know English,” Shesterkin was quoted as saying by Sport-Express.
Igor Shesterkin graduated from Spartak. In the NHL, he plays only for the Rangers. At the end of the 2021/2022 season, the Russian received the Vezina Trophy, an award given to the best goalie in the NHL.
In the summer of 2024, the authoritative New York Post published an article stating that Igor Shesterkin, under a new contract with the New York Rangers, could count on a salary of $12 million per year. The Russian goalkeeper’s current four-year contract with the Rangers, with a salary of $5.66 million, expires on June 25, 2025.
