Athletistic / Hockey. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has opened up about his relationship with Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin. The two hockey players know each other from the Russian junior team.
“In the match between the Russian stars of the NHL and the KHL, there was a friendly atmosphere, and mutual jokes with Ovechkin were appropriate. You yourself spent a lot of time in hockey locker rooms, so you perfectly understand what kind of communication exists between players. Everyone there is making fun of each other, making fun of each other, and this is normal, Sasha and I are no exception.
Ovechkin and I have already proven everything to each other. He has won many individual awards, the Stanley Cup, and I have also had success in my career. We are accomplished fathers and we respect each other as hockey players and friends. We communicate well with him!
“Ovechkin invited me to his gala match, which will take place on August 10 in Mytishchi. He is organizing a children’s tournament there and I will be happy to come. We try to support each other. I think I can consider him – like him – his great friend,” Malkin was quoted as saying by Match TV.
Evgeni Malkin has been playing in Pittsburgh since the fall of 2006. He has won three Stanley Cups with the Penguins. Alexander Ovechkin has been playing for Washington since October 2005, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2018. Their teams are considered bitter rivals in the NHL.
