Athletistic / Hockey. SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg spoke about the possible transfer of Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin to the St. Petersburg club. The 38-year-old Russian has a two-year contract with the capital.
“Is Ovechkin’s invitation to SKA realistic? He still has a two-year NHL contract. How will his contract with Washington end… And who would turn down Ovechkin? Of course not?
Will we be able to meet these conditions? I hope that it will succeed. We have the opportunity to develop hockey, children’s hockey and to complete the team thanks to our sponsors, general sponsors, shareholders, Gazprom and Alexey Borisovich Miller personally. This is done so that we can delight our fans and the whole country with our hockey,” Rotenberg said according to KP Sport.
Alexander Ovechkin has scored 853 goals in his NHL career in regular season play. He is now 41 goals away from Gretzky’s record of 894. The 38-year-old Russian’s contract with the Washington Capitals is valid for two more seasons.
In the summer of 2024, Ovechkin’s former Washington teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov left the NHL for SKA. The 32-year-old Russian signed a four-year contract with the army team.
