The Russian striker “Pittsburgh » Yevgeny Malkin said he had no intention of leaving the team early and intended to see out his contract, which is valid for another two years.
The 38-year-old hockey player’s current deal with Pittsburgh, with a salary of $6.1 million per year, runs through the end of the 2025/26 season.
Earlier, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Mark Madden said: “I’m told Evgeni Malkin is not coming back after next season – he’s going to Russia and opting out of the final year of his contract.”
“That’s not true,” the Russian striker responded to the report in an interview with The Athletic.
Malkin played for Russian Metallurg from 2003 to 2006. He was selected by Pittsburgh in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and spent his entire career overseas with the team, winning the Stanley Cup three times.
