Head Coach “Kunlun » Mikhail Kravets admitted that he really liked the new KHL season schedule.
The start of the new season of the Fonbet KHL Championship is scheduled for September 3.
— How do you assess the changes in the KHL related to the fact that teams are now starting training camps later?
“I talked about it last year, because it seems to me that our guys have long been ready to prepare in July, or someone could start in May. People hire specialists, go on the ice in groups and work individually with a coach. When we worked during the pre-season, there were so many people, everyone had to be given an individual task, one had to give as much weight on the bar, the other as much. It’s a bit awkward. Before, we did all this anyway, but I think now the guys have become real professionals, they train themselves, and when they go on the ice, we are already working on other qualities that we have to use during the games.
— What do you think about the fact that the championship will last until May 31?
— Yes, maybe it is not very convenient for Kazakhstan because of the World Cup, but I really liked this schedule. It is time to give the guys more rest, because the last schedule was very difficult. The same “Kunlun” had a difficult schedule. I think that now there are good breaks during which you can rest, but also train, change and correct something. This is important. When the matches follow one after the other with the flights, people are still not in iron, you need to rest at least a little.
I think a very important point is that hockey players and coaches spend more time with their families during the summer. This is also very important. It gives only positive emotions, you miss hockey even more, being with family. Every player and coach is now working with pleasure and waiting for the start of matches, ”Kravets told the Championship.
Last season, Kunlun finished 9th in the KHL Western Conference and failed to reach the playoffs.
