Defender Vyacheslav Voynov and attacking Evgeny Svechnikov will bring stability to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the playoffs, hockey coach Fedor Kanareikin said.
At the end of July, Torpedo signed a contract with 34-year-old Voinov. The hockey player’s agreement with the Nizhny Novgorod team is for one season. The agreement with 27-year-old Svechnikov will also be valid for one season. Earlier, the hockey players left Ak Bars Kazan.
“We see that head coach Igor Larionov is instilling fresh, attacking hockey into the team. But they lacked consistency in the decisive games of the playoffs. If in the regular season a coach can introduce innovations in the game model and take risks, then in the playoffs life dictates different conditions.
“Voynov and Svechnikov will bring stability to Torpedo in the playoffs. Voynov added stardom to our league, but at 34 he will no longer make a big step in the game. But if he works at full capacity, he will greatly help the team,” Kanareikin told Metaratings.ru.
Last season, Voynov scored 14 points (1+13) in 40 KHL regular season games. Svechnikov played 31 regular season games, scoring 13 (8+5) points. In the playoffs, he scored two games and scored one goal.
The new season of the Fonbet KHL Championship starts on September 3. In the first match, Torpedo will host Severstal Cherepovets on September 4.
