Saturday’s first game of the 3rd round of the Liga Stavok Sochi Hockey Open ended with a confident victory “Avant-garde” about Minsk “Dynamo” (5:2).
At the end of the first period, Sergey Tolchinsky opened the scoring. The goal was originally credited to Corban Knight, who substituted the stick on the “patch”, but on replay it’s clear the puck flew into the net after hitting Dynamo defenseman Ilya Shinkevich.
Within twenty seconds, Arseniy Gritsyuk and Knight took Avangard’s lead to a wide advantage. In the 55th minute, Fedor Malykhin converted the majority and scored the fourth goal for the Omsk team.
Shortly after, Shinkevich managed to score in the ‘right’ goal, Brandon Kozun scored two minutes later and then Knight set up the end result at Avangard, kicking in an empty goal and scoring a brace.
Avangard with 4 points in the table caught up with the leader of the tournament – St. Petersburg SKA, Dynamo still had 2 points. Later on Saturday in the tournament, Sochi will play against SKA, while Admiral will meet the Russian team (U-25).
