“The torpedo will help Voinov, there is no doubt about it” – Plyushchev

Russian coach Vladimir Pluschev said the defender Vyacheslav Voynov will help Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo in the new KHL season.

At the end of July, Torpedo signed a contract with Voinov. The hockey player’s agreement with the Nizhny Novgorod team is for one season.

— When a player is invited to a club, many look at his trophies, but you understand that Cups are won by teams, not by individual players. He will help Torpedo, there is no doubt about it. Voinov is a majestic and experienced defender who understands the game, but it is not necessary to mention that he has won several trophies. He won them in a different team, at a different time, with completely different partners. His playing qualities will be useful to Torpedo and Larionov. As an experienced player, he has the right to say something to the players or talk to the coach.

— While playing in the NHL, Voynov had problems with his personal life. Don’t you think that they could attract unnecessary negative attention to Torpedo?

“Voinov has long proven that there are no claims against him. As for your personal life, there is no need to interfere in these matters. We still do not know exactly what is happening with a person. The information we receive from the media is not always correct and objective. He spent several seasons in the top KHL clubs and there were no complaints against him,” Metaratings.ru quotes Plyushchev.

Last season, Voynov scored 14 points (1+13) in 40 KHL regular season games. As a member of the Russian national team, Voinov won the 2018 Olympics and also became a silver medalist at the 2022 Olympics. The defenseman is a two-time Stanley Cup winner with Los Angeles.

The new KHL season starts on September 3, with Torpedo hosting Severstal Cherepovets a day later.
