Athletistic / Hockey. A correspondence meeting of the KHL board of directors was held. It was decided to change the league’s regulations regarding the overtime game, with the goalkeeper being replaced by a field player.
According to the KHL press service, starting from the 2024/2025 regular season, an innovation will be applied regarding the system of awarding points based on the results of overtime. Now, if a team replaces the goalkeeper with an additional skater in overtime and misses the puck, it receives 0 points for the game. Note that the exception to this rule is the situation when the goalkeeper was replaced by an additional field player under the “delayed penalty” rule.
Over the past two seasons, many KHL coaches have often resorted to replacing the goalie with a fourth outfield player during the regular season. If their team missed the puck in an empty net, then, according to the rules, they were still entitled to a point.
