Athletistic / Hockey. Sibir defender Fedor Gordeev explained the scandalous situation last season. Due to his dual citizenship, the Novosibirsk team was deducted points for violating the limit imposed on foreign players.
“I myself do not know what happened to my citizenship. I do not have much information about this situation, of course, it was unfortunate, but I cannot tell you much.
“To be honest, I didn’t even know if I had any other sports citizenship. I played one amateur match for Team Canada. But I didn’t play any official matches, nothing. I was just in their camp and that’s it,” Gordeev said, as quoted by Sport-Express.
In December 2023, Fedor Gordeev, who had the so-called “sports citizenship” of the United States, turned out to be missing in the framework of “Sibir”. It turned out that in several matches, in addition to Andy Andreoff, Taylor Beck and Trevor Murphy, a fourth legionnaire, Gordeev, also played on the ice. And last season in the KHL there was a stricter limit – 3 foreigners per team.
After the KHL sanctions, Siberia lost its chance to be among the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference and missed the last Gagarin Cup.
