Moscow striker “Dynamo” Maxime Comtois spoke about his adaptation to the club and also said that he is physically ready for the start of the FONBET KHL Championship season.
On Friday, the 25-year-old Canadian made his debut with the Blue and White in a friendly match against Dynamo Minsk (3:1). During the offseason, the former Anaheim Ducks forward signed a one-year contract with the Muscovites.
— We had two difficult weeks. Finally, we played the first game. It took me a while to get used to the big ice, but overall everything was fine. We get used to each other, we find connections. It’s good that we won today.
— Not only in Moscow, but also in Dynamo Minsk there are a lot of North Americans. Does this facilitate the process of adaptation to the new league?
– It doesn’t matter. On the ice, you have to do everything to make your team win. The fact that there are more North Americans on the ice has no effect.
— In North America, your season started later, but here the first games of the regular season will take place in early September. Is it unusual to play at such a time? When will you be back in top form?
“I feel pretty good, I’m ready to start the season tomorrow.” I knew the season would start earlier and I prepared specifically for that. I repeat, today the only thing that bothered me was the big ice.
— During the preseason, you trained with Nikita Gusev, who is considered an NHL-caliber player. Was it strange to play without him today?
“We trained together for almost two weeks. Nikita is an excellent playmaker. Little by little, we find the chemistry, who should end up where. With his passes, I will have a fairly simple task: to throw and hit with precision,” Comtois said, quoted by the club’s press service.
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3. In their first match, Dynamo Moscow will host China’s Kunlun Red Star on September 4.
