Athletistic / Hockey. Dynamo Moscow head coach Alexey Kudashov spoke about the possible work of Russian mentors in the NHL.
“Will a Russian coach ever be able to become a head coach of an NHL club, if not Sergei Brylin or Sergei Gonchar? Are we now excluding Sergei Fedorov or Igor Larionov? They once played in this league and entered the glory of Hall hockey. Now they work in Russia, but I am more than sure that if they wanted, they could go to the NHL. If you remember, at one time we had Yurzinov and Tikhonov. , they could only become consultants.
“I can’t say that the NHL is a completely closed league, because I myself played there for a short time. But I talked with agents and people who represent coaches and I got the idea that the world is really conservative there,” Kudashov said in the Championship.
In 1991, Alexei Kudashov was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 5th round, 102nd overall. In 1993, he left for the NHL, but Kudashov failed to play in North America – with Toronto, the Russian played only 25 games in the regular season and scored one goal. In 1995, Alexey moved to Germany, and in the summer of 1997 he left to play for the Finnish TPS. Already in 1998, he returned to Russia.
On April 13, 2021, Kudashov was appointed head coach of Dynamo Moscow, and in 2021 he became an assistant coach of the Russian national team.
