On Monday, the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation (SZLH) announced the team that will participate in the Olympic qualifying tournament. The bid includes defenders Martin Gernat from Lokomotiv and Mario Grman from Admiral, as well as forward Adam Liszka, representing Severstal.
In March 2023, the SZLH announced that KHL hockey players would not be called up to the national team, which is why they missed the world championships last year and this year.
In August 2024, at the federation congress, 52% of Slovak clubs voted in favor of allowing KHL hockey players to play for the national team, 38% opposed and 10% abstained.
The final stage of qualification for the 2026 Olympic Games will take place from August 29 to September 1, where the Slovak team will meet teams from Austria, Hungary and Kazakhstan.
