Russian goalkeeper of Nashville system Yaroslav Askarov told NHL club management he did not want to play in the American Hockey League (AHL) and requested a trade, reporter Kevin Weeks reported.
“I’m told that promising goaltender Askarov told Nashville he wasn’t going to their AHL team and requested a trade,” Weeks wrote on social media.
Askarov was selected by Nashville with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He has been playing in the club system since 2022. Last season in the AHL, the 22-year-old played 44 regular season games and averaged 91.1% shooting per game. In the NHL, Askarov has played three games and recorded one win.
