Athletistic / Hockey. Former Russian hockey player and now popular pundit Nikita Filatov shared his opinion on forward Evgeny Kuznetsov’s decision to return to Russia. The Stanley Cup winner with the Washington Capitals signed a four-year contract with SKA on July 31.
“So much has already been said about Kuznetsov… Why he did not succeed in the NHL last season – there are a huge number of reasons that have already been mentioned by Zhenya himself and by journalists. Let’s all turn to this page and not radiate negativity.
Kuznetsov is a big star who has returned to the KHL. His return is a huge plus for the league. I have no doubt that Zhenya, if he manages to avoid injuries, will be one of the brightest players in the KHL. If he plays 90-100% of the games, he will definitely be among the top 10 scorers. Kuznetsov is one of the pillars of Russian hockey in the last ten years. This man won the Stanley Cup, was one of the best in this series and, as many believe, should have become its MVP. Therefore, let’s just rejoice that Evgeniy is back in the KHL and we will all have the opportunity to watch him play live,” Filatov was quoted as saying by RB Sport.
Evgeniy Kuznetsov graduated from Chelyabinsk Traktor. Previously, he played exclusively for this team in the KHL. In the NHL, the forward managed to play for the Washington Capitals (March 2014 – February 2024), with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2018, and for the Carolina Hurricanes (March 2024 – July 2024). SKA traded Kuznetsov’s rights to the KHL in the summer of 2017.
