Athletistic/Hockey. Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery has commented on the fitness of team captain Alexander Ovechkin.

“The photos of Ovechkin on vacation at the start of the offseason may have given the wrong impression, but I am absolutely confident that Alexander will be fully ready for the start of training camp.

“You have to take into account that Ovechkin is 38 and will soon be 39. He has a family, children, and at the end of the season he needs time to recover psychologically, spend vacations, be with his loved ones and take a break from hockey. This helps him return to training with the right attitude,” Carbery told the NHL website.

Last NHL season, 38-year-old Alexander Ovechkin played 79 regular-season games, scoring 31 goals and providing 34 assists.
