“Seattle Kraken “has agreed a new long-term contract with the American striker Matthew Beniers reported the NHL club’s website.
The 21-year-old forward’s deal was for seven years with an average annual salary of $7.14 million. Over the life of the contract, Beniers will earn $50 million.
“Matthew has been a vital part of our team since his NHL debut, not only on the ice, but also in his commitment to our team and our fans. Re-signing Matthew was our top priority this offseason, and we are pleased that it has happened. We look forward to seeing Matthew take his next steps as a player and contribute to many more memorable moments for our franchise,” said Kraken general manager Ron Francis.
Beniers was selected second overall by Seattle in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. After his first full NHL season in the 2022/23 season, he was awarded the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie.
Last season, the hockey player played 77 games and scored 37 points (15 goals and 22 assists).
Last season, Seattle finished 12th in the Western Conference and failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup.
