Avangard forward Alexei Makeev told how he agreed to join the Omsk team.
Makeev, 32, after four seasons at Avtomobilist, joined Avangard as a free agent, signing a one-year contract. In the first control match, Makeev scored a goal against Traktor (2:5) in the Blinov Cup match.
— Is it true that Avangard has been negotiating with you for a long time? And they didn’t hire you to plug the hole after Tkachev and Boucher were injured.
— We communicated for a long time, there were conversations. But the last call was very important and everything was decided in five to seven minutes. I packed my bags and went to Omsk.
– How was it?
“I came out of practice and saw a missed call from my agent. I called back and spoke to him quickly. He gave details, here and there. I confirmed, packed my things and headed to Omsk that night.
— How long does it take to travel by car?
— I traveled 10 hours by car from Yekaterinburg. I covered 900 km. I wanted to come as soon as possible. I understood that there would be a Blinov tournament. We had to be there as soon as possible.
— You had to reduce your salary, and 25 million rubles a year seems modest to you.
– In this situation, I wanted to prove it first of all to myself and to those people who did not let me in Yekaterinburg, who do not speak very well of me behind my back. “I wanted everything to fall into place and for me to end up in a famous club,” Makeev told .
Makeev played 638 games in the KHL and scored 322 points (157 goals + 165 assists).
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3.
