Athletistic / Hockey. Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere shared his expectations for Russian forward Matvey Michkov’s NHL debut. The 19-year-old Russian signed a three-year rookie contract with the “Pilots” in early July.
“Working under John Tortorella will benefit Michkov. The coach will teach Matvey to be a professional in every sense of the word. He will prepare him for tough competition in a tight game, help him in his defensive actions. We want Michkov to be a creative forward who will create dangerous moments. It seems to me that Tortorella and Michkov will do an excellent job,” Briere was quoted as saying by the NHL press service.
Matvey Michkov was selected seventh overall by Philadelphia in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2023/24 KHL season, the forward played for Sochi on loan from SKA. In 47 games, the 19-year-old Russian scored 41 (19+22) points using the goal+assist system.
