Defender of Barys Nathan Beaulieu explained his desire to continue his career in the KHL.
The Canadian hockey player signed a one-year contract with the Kazakh club. Beaulieu spent 11 years in the NHL, playing for Montreal, Winnipeg, Buffalo and Anaheim. The defenseman played last season with the Swiss club Kloten.
“I thought this offer was a good opportunity for me. I spent last season in Switzerland and I can’t say that I really enjoyed playing there. I accepted the offer from Barys, I like everything about the club and Astana is a wonderful city. So I’m expecting an interesting season.
— Did any of your friends recommend the KHL to you?
— Many of my friends played in the KHL. Darren Dietz spent several years in Astana, although I was not able to communicate with him. This summer I met several guys who played for Barys and they told me a lot of good things about the team.
— What prompted you to play in the KHL?
— It is one of the best leagues after the NHL. I have not seen many cities here yet. But I managed to play in tournaments in Astana and Omsk, and I liked the level of hockey, “Beaulieu quotes RB Sport.
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3.
