Kunlun forward Tomas Yurcho said forward Nail Yakupov was rightfully selected first overall in the 2012 NHL Draft and is a solid professional.
During the offseason, Yakupov signed a one-year contract with Kunlun.
— In “Kunlun” you will play with Nail Yakupov. What can you say about him?
— Nail is one of the few Russians on our team. We don’t spend time together often, but I see that he is a true professional. I was surprised to see how much effort he puts into his preparation, how diligently he works on his body. He is in a difficult position because he doesn’t play often, even when he is in the lineup. A lot can change over the course of the season. But I can already understand why he was selected so high in the (NHL) draft. His speed, skating and strength are qualities that I really like about him. He needs time to get used to everything, it’s a new team for him. But he will be fine.
— Will he be able to revive his career here?
– It’s definitely possible. It doesn’t all depend on him. It depends on how much and how he plays. I’m sure he’ll have a good season, “Yurcho told the Championship.
Yakupov played in the NHL with Edmonton, St. Louis and Colorado; in the KHL he represented Neftekhimik, SKA, Amur and Avangard.
