Former Avangard hockey player Tomas Jurcho believes that Sergei Zvyagin will show himself positively in the role of head coach of the Omsk team.
The Omsk club approved 53-year-old Zvyagin as their head coach in April, signing him to a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season. In March, Zvyagin replaced Mikhail Kravets, who was fired in the KHL playoff quarterfinals with Lokomotiv (3-4).
— Did Sergei Zvyagin’s passion have an effect on the Avangard players?
“He actually doesn’t act like that at all.” I know you’re talking about that situation on the bench when he was trying to get the stands going. But other than that moment, he’s very calm. He speaks calmly, always calm. Then the emotions came over me, that was the peak of the game. He was trying to convince the fans and the team. It was cool to see that kind of involvement from him, but he doesn’t act like that all the time. He’s a pretty calm person, treats everyone normally and behaves calmly.
— Do you see his potential as a head coach, tactician?
“I think he’ll be fine. He’s a good tactician. He’ll have a good team at his disposal, which is great for him. He’s a great person and he communicates well with everyone. I’m sure he’ll make a very good head coach,” Yurcho was quoted as saying by “Championship.”
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3.
