It is reported that the 29-year-old forward suffered a muscle injury while preparing for the new season with Polish Zaglebie. Despite this, Korenchuk joined the Ukrainian national team and played in a friendly match against Hungary (6:3), but during the game it became clear that Ilya was not yet able to perform at full strength.

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Korenchuk played in the UHL for Kremenchuk, Donbass and Altair.

Let us recall that Ukraine defeated South Korea (4:0) in the preliminary round of Olympic qualification, beat the Polish team (3:2) in a shootout, and triumphed over Estonia (5:3).

In the final round of the Olympic qualification, Dmitry Khristich’s team will play France, Slovenia and Latvia. The matches will be held in Riga from August 29 to September 1. The winner of the quartet will receive a ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games. Ukraine’s first opponent will be France – this match will take place on Thursday, August 29.
