Attack “Avant-garde” Marc Verba doesn’t consider himself a tough guy, but remains calm when others call him that.
On August 21, “Avangrad” defeated the Kazakhs “Barys” (4:3 OT) in the Blinov Cup match. During the match, Verba fought with Barys defender Nathan Beaulieu.
– You are considered a kind of half-hard guy. What do you think of this title?
— I can’t call myself a tough guy, but I really have a direct connection with fights. So I’ll take it easy. This can probably even be considered a plus. As practice shows, few are ready to throw in the gloves. Hockey is a rather contact sport, and sometimes the situation forces you to defend your partner or resolve some kind of conflict situation. Fans love it, it’s also part of the show. So I think it can be considered a plus for these reasons.
— An opponent might be afraid to attack someone on your team?
“I don’t think it causes colossal fear.” But when there are people who can intervene and it could have consequences, then yes.
– What if you were to come across a guy as cruel as during the match with Barys?
“When you fight, you have to be prepared for what might happen to you. I think all men will agree that it doesn’t happen that in life you always come out a winner. You have to be prepared for that. These are, so to speak, costs,” Verba said, as quoted by RB Sport.
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3.
