His brother Matthew died with him.
Columbus Blue Jackets confirmed information from American sources about the death of the attacker Johnny Gaudreau.
In the state of New Jersey, not far from the hockey player’s hometown of Salem, a car crashed into the bicycle that Johnny was riding. It is known that the driver was intoxicated. Johnny’s brother Matthew also died in the accident.
Gaudreau was one of the Blue Jackets’ leaders last season, scoring 12 goals and adding 48 assists in 81 games. The forward previously played for the Calgary Flames.
Gaudreau also played for Team USA at the 2024 World Championship, recording 11 points (three goals and eight assists) in eight games.
In the 2023/24 season, Columbus did not make it to the playoffs, finishing 16th in the standings following the regular season of the Eastern Conference.
