Goalkeeper “Lada” Maxime Tretiak admitted he was prepared to face pressure throughout the season because of his last name.
In May, Lada announced the signing of the 27-year-old goaltender to a one-year contract. Maxim Tretyak is the grandson of Russian Hockey Federation (RFH) president, three-time Olympic champion and ten-time world champion Vladislav Tretyak.
— Lada has a good team of goalkeepers, Podyapolsky and Trushkov. Were you afraid of competition when signing the contract?
“I was not afraid of competition, because it is in the goalkeeping department – it is good for the team. Nobody wants to give up, everyone wants to win. So I hope that our competition will bring benefits. The most important thing is that she is a good person and that we all communicate normally.
— As always, there will be a lot of pressure on you because of your last name…
– Of course, I’m still waiting for it. It was, it is and it will be. But what can you do? I play, work, do my job and fulfill my mission as a coach, – Tretyak told RB Sport.
Previously, Tretyak played for CSKA, Admiral, Dynamo Riga and Sochi. In total, he played 116 matches in the KHL, in which he won 20 times with a reliability coefficient of 3.62 and 89% of reflected shots.
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship begins on September 3. In its opening match on September 5 “Lada” will host Lokomotiv.
