In the All-Russian Hockey League (VHL), which this year received the official status of the Russian Championship under the auspices of the FHR, the first match of the 2024/25 season took place.
The current league champion Almetyevsk Neftyanik lost to Perm Hammer on penalties (2:3 G). Maxim Kitsyn and Dmitry Yabelov scored among the winners in regular time, and the hosts responded with goals from Arthur Brovkin and Denis Komkov.
In the post-match shootout, the Hammer players were more successful.
On August 7, a meeting of the VHL board of directors took place, after which it was agreed to conclude an agreement with the FHR on the delegation of rights to host the Russian ice hockey championship among men’s teams. At the end of July, the FHR terminated a similar agreement with the KHL.
Before the match, FHR President Vladislav Tretyak released a video message stressing the importance of the match in the new status and calling the game “historic”.
