Athletistic/Hockey. Forward Leon Draisaitl has signed a new eight-year contract with Edmonton worth $112 million, as reported by the club’s press service. The deal will come into effect starting in the 2025/2026 season and its cap hit will be $14 million. The German forward’s current contract with a salary of $8.5 million per year expires at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

Last regular season, Draisaitl played 81 games, scoring 41 goals and 65 assists for 106 points. In the playoffs, he scored 31 points (10 goals and 21 assists) in 25 games. Draisaitl played for Edmonton his entire career, amassing 850 points (347 goals and 503 assists) in 719 games.

Thus, the 28-year-old German forward will become the highest-paid hockey player in the NHL, surpassing the current leader, Toronto forward Auston Matthews, whose annual income is $13.25 million.
