Draisaitl extended his contract with Edmonton and became the highest-paid hockey player in NHL history.

German striker Leon Draisaitl contract extended with Edmonton Oilers reports the press service of the Canadian NHL club.

The new deal with the 28-year-old forward is for eight years and will kick in for the 2025/26 season. Draisaitl’s average annual salary will be $14 million, the highest in NHL history. In total, he will earn $112 million under his contract with the Oilers.

Previously, the NHL record for average annual salary was held by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, who, under a four-year deal with the Canadian club, earns $13.25 million per season.

Draisaitl was selected 3rd overall by Edmonton in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In total, he played 719 NHL games and scored 850 (357+503) points.
