Athletistic / Hockey. Former Russian national hockey team forward Ilya Kovalchuk shared his thoughts on Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of legendary Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal scoring record.

Ovechkin ranks 2nd on the league’s all-time leading scorers list. He has scored 853 goals. Gretzky leads the league with 894 goals.

Gavrikov ironically said he wouldn’t want Ovechkin to break Gretzky’s record

“The most important thing is that he beats him. And it will be 100%, no matter this year or not, I wish him health and an injury-free season.

“Pressure because of the record? It’s been on him since childhood, he knows how to cope with it, there’s no need to worry,” Kovalchuk quotes RIA Novosti.
