Head Coach SKA Romain Rotenberg appreciated the attacker’s performance Evgenia Kuznetsova in his first game for the St. Petersburg club in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
On Thursday, the army team lost to Metallurg Magnitogorsk (4:5 OT) in the away match of the FONBET KHL Championship. Kuznetsov scored with a goal.
SKA announced the signing of Kuznetsov to a four-year contract on July 31. The 32-year-old forward previously played for Traktor Chelyabinsk, Washington, where he won the Stanley Cup, and Carolina.
— Evgeny Kuznetsov behaved very emotionally. Should we restrain him so that he does not throw a lot of energy in the wrong places?
“We are trying to direct the energy of all our players in the right direction. We have known Evgeniy for a very long time, we have been working together for several days, so we understand how to play. We need to use our strengths. You are right: emotions need to be controlled and directed in the right direction. It is not easy for Evgeniy – he played in the NHL, where refereeing is different, everything is different. He will get used to it. In the next game, everything will be different. It was such an ordeal for him. He has not played in the KHL for a long time – 11 years have passed, it is a long time. He does not understand some points, but he will understand. We just need to focus on our business and score more goals. We need to strive for this. We need a clear advantage – we will strive for it in the next game,” Rotenberg said according to the SKA press service.
