Canadian defender Marc Staal has ended his sports career, the press service of the NHL club New York Rangers reported.
The 37-year-old Canadian joined the Rangers’ coaching staff and served as an assistant in the player development department.

Staal was selected 12th overall by the Rangers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and played for the club for 13 seasons. He also played in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers. In total, he played 1,136 regular season games and scored 234 (53+181) points. As a member of the Canadian youth team, Staal became a two-time world champion.
