Former defender of SKA Saint Petersburg Yaroslav Dyblenko said that Romain Rotenberg did some serious work before becoming head coach of the team.
Dyblenko played for SKA from the 2018/19 season until the middle of the 2021/22 season. He is now a player of Severstal Cherepovets.
—Roman Borisovich [Ротенберг] He is still with the team, but he simply has never been on the bench before. He wanted it, he was eager and prepared. When Roman Borisovich became a coach under me, he slowly began to gain experience. He began to take his first steps and learn everything – this is a very serious job that must be understood.
– During these two years, were you stifled or were you still allowed to play?
— In my first year under the leadership of Alexei Nikolaevich Kudashov, I played a lot. Whatever one may say, there is a rotation, so already in the second year I started going on the ice a little less often. I had a good run after quarantine and also played well despite a knee injury against CSKA in the conference final.
— What do you think about this rotation principle? During the Covid year, SKA played 52 field players and 4 goalkeepers.
— It was difficult for me to understand this, because I was used to playing non-stop. Some people accept this fact, but others do not. I had ambitions, so I demanded playing time. I solved the problem through my agent and always wanted to know the reasons why I was not included in the team. I believe that you have to play constantly and get the best out of yourself. Missing one or two games is normal, but not more. In this case, it is very difficult to return to a good playing mode, ”Dyblenko said in an interview with Metaratings.ru.
Rotenberg has been serving as SKA vice-president since 2011 and since 2022 he has been the team’s head coach. Prior to that, he worked in the coaching staff of the St. Petersburg team. Since 2023, the official has been leading the Russia 25 team.
