Russian striker for Washington Alexander Ovechkin completed the first workout of the offseason with the club, NHL website reporter Tom Gulitti reported on social media.
The club’s training camp is expected to open in about two weeks.
Ovechkin, 38, has played for Washington since 2005 and is the team’s captain. The Russian forward ranks second on the NHL’s all-time leading sniper list with 853 goals, just behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894).
Last season, the Capitals made the Stanley Cup playoffs, but lost in the first round to the New York Rangers in a 0-4 series. Florida went on to win the trophy.
The regular championship of the new NHL season begins on October 4.
