SKA front Mikhail Vorobiev pleaded guilty in the case to paying a bribe to an official, correspondent Artem Kocheshev told the All for the Match! show.
In July three Russian hockey players were caught trying to pay a bribe to be exempted from conscription into the army, criminal case documents were filed in court of the Leninsky district of Ufa. The court received documents from criminal cases under part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (bribe) against Vorobyov, Anvar Suleimanov and the attacker “Admiral” Vladislav Lukin .
On August 10, the Leninsky District Court of Ufa was scheduled to consider three criminal cases against these hockey players. Suleimanov and Lukin, unlike Vorobyov, pleaded not guilty.
– Suleimanov came to court with his parents and a lawyer. The lawyer initially requested the transfer of the examination of the case from Ufa to Neftekamsk. The lawyer’s request was denied. During the hearing, the indictment was read out, after which Suleymanov’s lawyer requested that a number of documents be included in the case. During the trial, some details became known. Suleimanov is accused of paying a bribe in the amount of 158,000 rubles, for this amount a telephone and two sets of watches were to be purchased. As a result, Suleimanov pleaded not guilty. He said he would talk about his attitude towards the prosecution later in the interrogation. Finally, the meeting was postponed due to the absence of a key witness, the mediator Farit Samigullin.
All of the defendants declined to comment, including their attorneys. After dinner Vorobyov arrived at the court. Moreover, his meeting was postponed, but unlike Suleimanov, Vorobyov, after the accusation, admitted his guilt. The next time Vorobyov’s case will be considered on August 22, Suleimanov – on August 25.
Lukin did not arrive for the hearing, his lawyer requested a postponement. In the future, criminal cases will be considered on the merits,” Kocheshev said.
Part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, under which Vorobyov, Suleimanov and Lukin are charged, provides for 7-12 years in prison.
In 2015, Vorobyov was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Draft under 104th overall. The 25-year-old striker has been playing for SKA since 2021. Last season he played 57 matches for the St. Petersburg club and scored 27 (7+20) points with an efficiency indicator of +19.
