Athletistic / Hockey. Former head coach of the Russian national hockey team Vladimir Plyushchev assessed Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s chances of winning the Olympics.
“Probably, the Olympic gold is really the only major trophy that Ovechkin does not have in his career yet. Another thing is that now, regarding the Olympics, several other issues are being resolved that are not directly related to Alexander.
“In general, I believe that Ovechkin can make it to the 2030 Olympics. Hypothetically, I would not rule it out,” VseProSport quoted Plyushchev as saying.
After the start of the SVO in Ukraine, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) made a politicized decision and suspended the Russian team from international tournaments. Therefore, the participation of the Russians in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy now remains a big question.
The 2030 Olympic Games will be held in France. When they debut, Alexander Ovechkin will be 44 years old.
Alexander Ovechkin competed at the 2006 Turin, 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi Olympics. In 2006, the Russian team took 4th place at the Olympics, and in 2010 and 2014 they lost in the quarterfinals.
