Widow of deceased hockey player “Columbus” Johnny Gaudreau Meredith revealed that she is nine weeks pregnant.
Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed in a crash while biking on the side of a New Jersey highway. The Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Sean Higgins, 43, fatally struck the brothers as it attempted to pass another vehicle. The suspect in Gaudreau’s murder reportedly failed a field sobriety test and the man has been charged with two felony counts.
Meredith announced her pregnancy at Gaudreau’s funeral. They previously had a daughter, Noah, and a son, Johnny.
Gaudreau was selected 104th overall by Calgary in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and played for the team from 2014 to 2022. Since 2022, he has played for Columbus. In the NHL’s regular season, Gaudreau has played 763 games and scored 743 points (243 goals and 500 assists). In 42 playoff games, he scored 33 points (11+22). As a member of the United States youth team, the forward became a world champion in 2013 and, with the main team, he won bronze at the 2018 World Championship.
The forward has played in the NHL All-Star Game seven times and in 2017 was awarded the Lady Byng Trophy, awarded to a player who has exemplified fair sportsmanship and courteous behavior combined with great playing skills.
